The disadvantages of colloid mill equipment include significant heat generation from friction, which can degrade heat-sensitive ingredients if cooling is inadequate, as well as wear on the rotor and stator surfaces over time that requires periodic maintenance. Colloid mills can also struggle with very high-viscosity products or materials containing hard, abrasive particles that risk damaging the close-tolerance components.
