In emulsified explosives production, a colloid mill is used under strict controlled conditions to disperse the oxidizer solution as fine droplets within the fuel phase, since uniform droplet size directly affects the stability, sensitivity and detonation performance of the finished emulsion. Because of the hazardous nature of these materials, equipment must be operated with proper safety systems, temperature control and adherence to relevant industrial safety regulations.
