While varnish production centers on dissolving resins into a solvent or oil base, a colloid mill is useful for evenly dispersing any added pigments, driers or matting agents throughout the mixture, preventing streaks or inconsistent sheen in the finished coating. The mill also helps break down any resin particles that haven’t fully dissolved, contributing to a smoother, more uniform varnish.
