In starch production, a colloid mill is often applied during the wet milling stage to break down corn kernels or potato pulp more thoroughly, releasing starch granules from the surrounding fiber and protein matrix and improving extraction yield in downstream separation steps. Fine, even particle size from the mill also helps starch settle and separate more efficiently in later stages of processing.
