Essential oil production itself relies mainly on distillation or cold pressing to extract the oil, but a colloid mill becomes valuable afterward when essential oils need to be emulsified or evenly dispersed into water-based or cream-based carriers, since oils and water don’t mix naturally. The mill’s shear breaks oil droplets down small enough to form a stable, uniform dispersion rather than separating into visible oil layers.
