The colloid mill mechanism starts with the feed material entering through an inlet hopper near the center of the rotor. Centrifugal force pushes it outward into the narrowing gap between rotor and stator, where intense shear, turbulence, and impact forces reduce particle size. The processed material then exits through the outlet at the periphery, often after passing through several shear zones for progressively finer dispersion.
