For solutions preparation involving only fully soluble components, a colloid mill isn’t strictly necessary since simple stirring can dissolve them; however, when a solution includes solids that dissolve slowly or partially, or when very fast, uniform mixing is required at scale, a colloid mill significantly speeds up the process by applying shear that accelerates dissolution and prevents localized concentration differences.
